I’m a political journalist and writer.

I write about socialism, populism, the break-up of Britain, and our looming climate apocalypse. I’ve reported extensively from the UK, Canada, Europe, and the US.

My bylines include: New Left Review, VICE, Foreign Policy, the Washington Post, the London Review of Books, POLITICO, Jacobin, the New Statesman, the New York Times, Al Jazeera English – and I’m a regular contributor to The Herald, Bella Caledonia, and the Sunday National.

In 2014, I co-edited Old Nations, Auld Enemies, New Times, a collection of essays by Tom Nairn.

I grew up in Edinburgh and studied politics at Glasgow University and journalism at Birkbeck in London. After that, I lived in Belfast and Vancouver. I’m currently back in Glasgow.
